New Wise Men

When the kids come home educated adults
and work is what they’re looking for
They all stand line underneath the sign
of the nearest superstore.

ME AND MY BROTHERS
All hold that line
ME AND MY BROTHERS
Follow that sign

The cashier lady on the front said “Son,
don’t you know you’ve got your mother’s eyes”.
I said “Thank you Miss, but don’t dismiss
I’ve got my Father’s bite”.

And I’ll lend my body
All to the cause
And I’ll lend my body
Like you lent yours

New wise men they came cursing
Grandaddy’s good name, while we
Play our children’s games out in the woods

Jim got working and his lady’s got
a baby in her belly now
One of six strong men and the sixth coffin
Put it six feet in the ground

Bury my dreamings
With my body
Bury my dreamings
When the lord takes me

New wise men they came cursing
Grandaddy’s good name, while we
Play our children’s games out in the woods
And they steal from my mother while she’s
waitressing their tables.
There’ll be trouble when your father comes back home
