May Day

The public park has turned to mud
They found him lying in a pool of blood
There’s a Bargain Booze just down the street
And a young girl shouting from a limousine

Today’s the day of the May Day parade
I found my way but I got back too late

I want to ride on Chris’ boat
I left my wallet in my winter coat
And there’s a girl that’s never coming back
No, she went down to the railway track

Today’s the day of the May Day parade
I found my way but I got back home, no, I got back home too late

May Day May Day May Day

Young boys going, grazing up their knees
While the men get pissed taking shelter in the marquee

Old man lying where the chestnuts grow
With a plastic bag and a bottle of Strongbow

Went out drinking with some local girls
Crashed his car into the bottom of the river

For all I think and for all you’ve done
I forgive you man ‘cos you are my brother

If you ever have the time
Maybe one day, drop me a line
